My interest in 3D objects has drawn me to making ceramics, especially clay sculptures.
I love the physicality of this work and the mysterious way in which colours transform through firing. I start each voyage with a small lump of clay but the adrenaline of working it grows in me like a dream and sets my ideas on fire.
The outcome of each piece, especially with large heads and portrait busts, is uncertain and unpredictable. Just as we are never really in control of our lives, there is no guarantee that works will emerge in tact from the kiln, but the satisfaction when they do is great and always surprising.
