The texture and feel of working on paper is addictive.
I often work with pastels because they are immediate and the colours so intense, but also use gouache, ink and oil paint. Some years ago, a happy accident opened a new way of working. I left a half-finished work outside my studio by mistake and returned a couple of days later to find the sun had curled the paper, creating three dimensional depth and interesting gradations of shade. This led to a new series of 3D works on paper, mostly oils, which I call ‘solar-paintings’.
